Experience
I immersed myself in the study of photography during my undergraduate studies and earned a bachelor of science in mass communication with a cognate in photography. Following that, I refined my photography skills during a five-year tenure as a photojournalist at a daily newspaper. Subsequently, I transitioned into newsroom management and directed staff photography for three publications, where I led visual reporting for an additional 25 years. My photographs have been viewed tens of millions of times across five states.
Teaching
During my master’s studies at the Missouri School of Journalism, I was invited to lecture on photojournalism. Following graduation, I extended my stay for another year to continue teaching. I am a mass communication professor, instructing college students across multiple photography courses. The curriculum I teach is notably robust and comprehensive.
Research
To delve deeper into the study of photography, I earned a doctorate in communication. I conduct original research to enhance scholarly insights into photography. Additionally, I develop and test visual theories to better understand the aspects of photography people find most meaningful.
